I’m doing it! Yet again in my career I’m taking a risk and going for it. I’m going to focus on what I am passionate about and what keeps me growing. I will stay away from the “what if and maybe not” and remember what has brought me to this fortunate place in my career.
I have had the privilege of working in several different industries (construction, education, restaurant management and manufacturing… to name some). And all to the complete contradiction of a recruiter’s prediction and “fair warning” when I started my career. I was told that if I took a position in this specific industry I would be “pigeon holed” and my future opportunities minimized. My response to her was that “my career would be dictated by my skills and competencies within my profession and where my passion lies and not the industry in which I work.” I have since worked in 7 different industries (not including the industries I worked for as a consultant) doing what I love. My lesson learned early on?… don’t let others define your limitations… find your strengths and passion and let that guide you always.
